DAY TWENTY-ONE and the word "selfie" has been designated the new word of the year by the Oxford English Dictionary. Another little Aussie triumph to put up there with the Hills Hoist. It seems that the first recorded use of the word selfie was by a drunken Ocker youth who had fallen down some stairs and used his phone to take a photo of his swollen lip.

If you suffer from a touch of Narcissus syndrome then the Olympus E-P5 with its wifi control, via an app that's free for Android and iPhone, is just your cup of tea. Point the camera in the general direction...Make the wifi connection between camera and phone and you have the best way yet devised of making a selfie.

CAVEATS: When the phone remote is used the camera goes into total auto mode. That's a pain. And there is no app for Windows phone. Video can't be started by remote.
